Buxton’s artisan market will continue for another ten months after being given the go-ahead by councillors.
Members of High Peak Borough Council’s Executive approved plans to let the market continue until September 2015 at a meeting held in Buxton last Thursday.
Cllr Godfrey Claff, executive member for regeneration, said: “It has proved to be very popular indeed with thousands of people attending and interestingly many of those were Buxton residents rather than visitors.”
The market has been operated by the Market Co in a trial led by Buxton Town Team with support from High Peak Borough Council on a monthly basis since June. Four trial markets were held, alternating locations between the market place and Spring Gardens.
Students from the University of Derby Buxton were then asked by the town team to carry out an independent survey of customers, local business and market traders to determine the best location of the market.
And results from the survey showed that all three stakeholder groups supported the idea of an artisan market in Buxton, with the town team recommending the market place as the preferred location.
The next market is in January.
