Work commenced last week and is due to continue until October 26, with three-way temporary lights in operation at the Barmoor Clough junction of the A6 and the A623.

A spokesperson for Cadent said: "Our engineers moved in during the last week to completely replace a very long section of this very old underground pipe – several hundred metres of it.

"We know this is causing some traffic issues, with three-way lights controlling traffic at the roundabout near our work area, where the A6 joins the A623.

"We're really sorry for the inconvenience during these next few weeks. But we hope you understand this is short-term pain for longer-term gain.

The temporary lights are currently only in place when deemed necessary as engineers attempt to minimise disruption at peak times, however they are expected to be in operation on a full-time basis once the main work gets underway.
