A flutter with Rutter!

Rehearsals for the Churches Together Good Friday evening meditation in words and music start on Friday, February 10. Everyone is welcome to join the choir, experienced singers and novices alike.

Director Kate MacLean saids: “I may not be Gareth Malone of TV fame, but I really do believe that everyone is able to sing. Singing in a choir is a very special feeling. It’s my job to make everyone feel at ease and able to experience the thrill of making music.

“Don’t worry if you can’t read the notes or don’t know what ‘voice’ you sing, with many very able singers in the choir, you’ll soon pick it up.”

The choir will sing all the movements of John Rutter’s Requiem, interspersed by readings chosen by the Rev Canon Stephen Shipley. It’s a very popular, melodic piece by the renowned composer of church choral music, known most particularly for his Christmas carols, such as The Star Carol, and Shepherd’s Pipe Carol. The choir will be accompanied by John Anfield on the organ and by a small group of instrumentalists.

Rehearsals will take place every Friday evening in the Methodist Church on the Market Place, from 7.30 to 9pm, starting on Friday, February 10, except Friday, March 2, when the Riding Lights Theatre Company will be visiting Buxton.

There will be an extra rehearsal on Tuesday, April 3.

A voluntary donation of £5 is requested from all participants, to cover the costs of music hire and other expenses.
