30,000th Last Post marked in Buxton

The event will take place at Buxton fire station.

Buxton firefighters will join colleagues across the world for a special commemoration next month.

On July 9, the Last Post will be sounded by buglers under the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium, for the 30,000th time and to celebrate, people from all over the world are being asked to follow a special ceremony.

Traditionally, Last Post buglers are recruited from the local fire station and wear the fire brigade uniform so people are being invited to Buxton fire station to view the ceremony.

Taking place at 7pm, it will feature a short text, especially written for the event, being read aloud as well as a moment of silence and contemplation.

It is also hoped to have someone at Buxton fire station on Staden Lane to play the Last Post.

Locals are invited to attend the event in Buxton and there is no need to book.
