1. Rail Ale Festival. Barrow Hill Roundhouse

Two classic diesel locomotives will haul special trains on Friday and Saturday, picking up passengers from Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield and taking them to the festival for beer tasting, live music and cider drinking.
A free bus service will also be running from Chesterfield rail station, Thursday-Saturday.

2. Art exhibition by Rebecca Webster-Lajmi, Green Man Gallery, Buxton

Rebecca enjoys painting flowers, fruit, berries, seed heads and leaves. The mum of three paints in acrylic and watercolour. She says that her paintings do not aim to be botanically accurate but aim to capture the essence and colour of the object portrayed.

3. National Association of Choirs (East Midlands region) concert, United Reformed Church, Sutton-in Ashfield

Erewash Phoenix Choir, Pye Hill and District Male Voice Choir, The Gentlemen, Sonara Singers and Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir will perform songs from the shows, traditional choir favourites and contemporary classics on Saturday.

4. Cara Dillon, Guildhall Theatre, Derby

Irish folk singer Cara will delight her legion of fans with this concert in Derbyshire on Saturday.

She has won every folk award going and has huilt up legions of followers.
A Thousand Hearts, her fifth solo album, is another masterpiece of song and emotion, ethereal and radiant.

5. Derby Concert Orchestra, St Mary’s Church, Wirksworth

Conducted by Jonathan Trout, the orchestra will play Sibelius’s Scene With Cranes, Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan And Isolde, Mahler’s Songs Of A Wayfarer, and Nielsen’s Symphony No 5 at their concert on Saturday.

6.Partisans, Derby Silk Mill Museum

Since their formation in 1996, Partisans have been thrilling audiences with their ferociously energetic performances. They are hailed as breaking the ground for the new wave of British jazz.

7. Cyrano, Derby Theatre

Northern Broadsides present Deborah McAndrew’s adaptation of the famous tale of Cyrano De Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. Enjoy this swashbuckling romantic comedy which is running until Saturday.

8. Bolsover Hill Race

Are you an elite runner who wants to become King or Queen of the Hill? Do you just want to run to raise funds for Macmillan? Or are you a fun runner? Then get involved in the 2017 Bolsover Hill (Running) Race or cycle time trial. All levels of runners and riders are welcome.

Why not bring the kids? One under 12 can enter free with each adult. You can also join the race in fancy dress – a prize is available for the best dressed child entrant’ even if you walk up the course!

Bolsover Hill Race starts at midday on Sunday and organisers are looking for walkers, runners and cyclists to conquer the hill and help build a new cancer unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

There will be prizes available for the fastest male and female who complete the course, and for the best fancy dress.

Register online up until 6pm on Saturday.

9. Miniature train rides, St Peter and St Paul’s School, Chesterfield

Chesterfield and District Model Engineering Society at Hady Hill invite you to enjoy a fun day out and experience riding a miniature train.

See locomotives – miniature, small and large – alongside traction engines, static engines, models and more on Saturday and Sunday.
