Monsal Trail tunnels in Peak District reopen after big thaw

The Monsal Trail tunnels in the Peak District have reopened after being closed for nearly a week due to huge icicles.

The former railway tunnels on the popular 8.5-mile walking and cycling route between Chee Dale and Bakewell had closed last week during the Beast from the East.

But Peak District National Park said yesterday they had reopened ‘thanks to some serious sweeping’.

It reminded people that Cressbrook Tunnel would be closed for planned maintenance for two weeks from March 8, on Monday to Friday only.
