Take a look inside this 'characterful' Peak District house designed by the same architect as Manchester Town Hall and The Natural History Museum

A former Vicarage gardener’s cottage, coach house and stable, designed by the same architect that built Manchester Town Hall and The Natural History Museum, has gone on the market.

Vicarage Cottage on Butts View, Bakewell, constructed in 1870 and designed by the noted architect Alfred Waterhouse, was converted into a family home during the 20th century.

And, it is being marketed by Fine & Country for offers over £850,000.

The current owner of the Grade II listed house said: “We have: re-wired throughout, replaced the boiler and both bathrooms, refitted the kitchen, redecorated and re-carpeted all the rooms at least once, upgraded and maintained the passenger lift to conform to current safety standards, re-painted the exterior, and replaced and re-built the upper garden terrace.

"We also acquired planning permission to convert two of the three garages into a large guest bedroom, bathroom, store, utility room and study.”

The garden spans 0.41 of an acre and boasts the oldest walnut tree in Bakewell, the owner added: “The yew hedges are thought to date from the original design in 1870, and are accompanied by numerous shrubs, lawns and other flora. There are three patio areas – one with a well - and an upper terrace. Re-built in 2016, this fantastic terrace provides views towards Bakewell Church and the golf course across the valley.”
