A historic eight-bedroom house in the Peak District with riverside gardens, a floor-to-ceiling ‘glass corridor’ upstairs and an impressive kitchen is for sale with an asking price of £1.25 million.

River Cottage, sits on the edge of Ashford-in-the-Water, near Bakewell, and was built in around 1740.

It is currently used as a holiday let with ‘significant annual income’, says Fine & Country, the estate agent handling the sale – the entire house is being sold fully furnished, apart from personal belongings.

"This stunning stone-built property is ripe with character and charm,” the firm says. “The spectacular garden has the River Wye running at the bottom and the owners often congregate at the edge of the river of an evening and enjoy watching the trout and the ducks competing for food.”

The house, on Buxton Road off the A6, is listed on Zoopla.
