Takeaway Test: Fanoush Falafel Salad Bar, 103 London Road, Sheffield, S2 4LE. Phone: 0114 3273134

Sometimes there’s nothing better than simple.

The latest addition to London’s Road ever-growing foodie attractions does exactly what it says on the tin – or at least in its name.

Fanoush is a falafel salad bar. And that’s what it sells.

The menu consists of just three different types of wraps and the same number of salad boxes but boy, are these offerings tasty.

Our favourite was the Fanoush wrap which consists of falafel and houmous served with a wide range of salads and sauce.

The others are made of grilled halloumi cheese or feta with thyme – both good.

There are two different types of houmous, and the staff are good at giving advice on sauces.

Everything is put together in front of you as you pick and choose between the salads – and the staff have plenty of patience when it comes to the fussiest kids.

You can get a six-inch wrap for £2.25 and the most expensive items come in at £3.50.

And while the offerings at Fanoush are delicious, they are all also very good for you – packed full of veggie vitamins.

Fanoush also serve a range of juices which they squeeze for you – and they cost just £1.25 when ordered with food.

Falafel is basically fried chickpea balls with lots of flavour. Or if you prefer a more colourful description, here’s Fanoush’s definition: “Crispy and crunchy on the outside, warm and moist on the inside, the scrumptious golden-brown croquettes known as falafels are a worldwide taste sensation.”

We’ll certainly be back, even when money is tight, so here’s hoping this unusual takeaway is a credit crunch success.
