VIDEO: TAVI heart procedure helps 50 patients

The lives of more than 50 heart patients have been improved after undergoing a pioneering operation which is an alternative to open heart surgery. A specialist centre at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is the only place north of the border performing the life-saving procedure in which faulty heart valves are replaced. Consultant Cardiologist Dr Neal Uren, explains the benefits of the new treatment and how the procedure works. David MacDonald, an 82-year-old TAVI patient, syas the treatment saved his life whilst his wife Eileen talks about how her husband has changed for the good since the operation.
