It has been announced by the MP today (Thursday) that the whole of the borough and rest of Derbyshire would join Glossopdale as well as Erewash, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire in the high risk category.

The new restrictions - meaning households cannot mix indoors in any setting - will be imposed across the entire county as of Saturday, Mr Largan says.

“The figures in Glossopdale have shown that introducing Tier 2 measures there has helped slow the spread of Covid but cases in the rest of Derbyshire continue to go up at a worrying rate - which has made this announcement necessary.

"I'm really pleased that the Government listened to the calls from myself and others and have put in place a new grant for affected businesses in Tier 2 areas and they've expanded the Job Support Scheme.

“I will be doing everything I can to help protect jobs and get people the support they need – this is a worrying time but if we work together I know that we will get through this."

Councillor Barry Lewis, leader of Derbyshire County Council has also confirmed the news and said the restrictions come into force from 12.01am on Saturday.
