New community covid test centre to open in New Mills
Residents in New Mills are being urged to make use of a new test centre at the Adult Education Centre for people without symptoms of Coronavirus.
People do not need to be showing any symptoms or book an appointment in order to visit.
The centre will open on Wednesday, March 10 at the New Mills Adult Education Centre, Spring Bank and be open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with later openings to 7pm on Mondays. It will also be open on Saturdays from 9am to midday.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said: “You don't need to book, just turn up at a time convenient to you. But please only visit a centre if it's in your local area.
“One in three of those with COVID-19 do not have any symptoms, meaning that they could be passing on the virus to anyone they meet.
“Our community testing programme offers regular testing to those who are at most risk of passing on the virus, which is those who are still going out to work and spending time with colleagues or the public.
“The testing will identify people with COVID-19, enable support for those who have to self-isolate, and drive infection rates down further in the county.
“Community testing is not for those who have coronavirus symptoms. They should book a test in the usual way."
High Peak MP Robert Largan said about the new test centre: “Community testing is all about breaking the chain of transmission. Some people are asymptomatic, meaning they are infectious but do not show any symptoms. They could spread the virus to family, friends, and work colleagues, putting lives at risk.
“We need to be able to identify these people and ask them to self-isolate and get them the support they need.
"This will help to drive down transmission. It is really welcome news that New Mills will be joining Buxton next week in getting a centre.
“I want to thank all of the brilliant staff and volunteers who are helping to tackle the virus and get us back to normal. We can all do our bit by getting tested, helping to
save lives. Together, we will get through this.”
