The Advertiser has learned that staff at Peak School in Chinley, a special school catering for students from nursery to the age of 19, have been told they may face redundancy.

Headteacher John McPherson, speaking to the Advertiser, confirmed a ten-day consultation period was ongoing, but was unable to give any further information.

He said: “We are doing all we can to avoid redundancies but like any school we have a budget to manage.

"No decisions will be made during this consultation period.”

He added that once the consultation period is over, there will be an interview process as some staff may see a change in their roles.

Mr McPherson added: “On Wednesday last week, I had a quick meeting with all the staff. There were a lot of knee-jerk reactions but I have since met every member of staff individually and allayed a lot of their fears.”
