Buxton Community School year group kept home due to Covid-19 case

In a message sent to parents last night (Tuesday) headteacher Craig Yates said all students would have to remain at home from today as a precaution.

However he added that he would update parents with an expected return date as soon as it has been confirmed with Public Health England.

Craig told the Buxton Advertiser today that a process of tracing close contacts of the confirmed case was now underway.

He added: “We were made aware last night and had to take immediate precautions.

“We’re now going through the process with Public Health England and will be in touch with families and are looking to return students as soon as possible.”

While Year 11 students are self-isolating the school remains open for all other year groups and siblings of Year 11 students.

This is the second time Year 11s have been sent home this academic year - following another confirmed case in September.

The school will be setting work remotely for Year 11 students however a parent of a 15-year-old boy sent home told how she was ‘concerned about more remote learning’.

She said: “My son is academic but thrives within the school environment as all young people learn in different ways.

“This is certainly not the fault of the school but I think the only fair option would be for the government to look at modifying this year's exam system somehow - maybe by awarding expected grades again.”
