Geldards LLP bosses say they are “delighted” with the purchase, which they hope will allow the firm to grow in the region.

The acquisition is designed to enhance the legal services Geldards provides in the East Midlands, particularly for charities, agricultural and private clients.

Geldards’ Chief Executive Jeff Pearson said: “The acquisition of Robinsons is part of our strategic plan to build on our existing strengths in the region and to continue to expand our services to nationally recognised charities and private clients.

“We also look forward to bringing our own expertise to the fore too – for the benefit of Robinsons’ numerous business and personal clients and to their existing projects.”

All of Robinsons’ Principals and lawyers have joined the new team.

David Williams, Geldards’ chairman, added: “As the economy starts to emerge into positive times, we are looking to be more expansive-minded.

The current boss of Robinsons said it was a ‘good time’ to merge the company, as a result of an increasingly competitive legal market.

Neil Barnes, of Robinsons, said the firm had been considering for “some time” the best way to maintain the “high quality” service.

He said: “The increasingly competitive and evolving legal market makes now a good time to consider a merger with a larger organisation and we believe there will be great synergy between the two firms.”
