Hayfield mum-of-three hopeful kids’ wigwam sleep-over parties will take off after lockdown

Emma Crellin had just received six child-size A-frame tents for her business Northern Star Wigwams when schools were closed throughout the country to halt the virus’ spread.

Communications manager Emma told how she had already received bookings and was ready to launch when ‘the whole thing crashed’.

Emma, 37, custom decorates the shelters in-line with a number of themes for children’s sleepover parties including football, outdoor camping and enchanted garden.

Pictures show the 120cm-high tents intricately-decorated for each different occasion.

A photo of the enchanted garden theme shows the wigwams adorned with roses - while plants are painstakingly wrapped around their frames.

At the entrance to each enclosure is a pillow and a little table where kids can poke their heads out and eat their party food.

Emma, who is already planning wigwams for bored youngsters to play and sleep in at wedding receptions, said interest was growing despite current circumstances.

She said: “We have a few bookings and we’re trying them with no deposit but we just don’t know how things are going to go - I’m not that optimistic.

“I don’t think things are going to fully open up anytime soon and I guess parents would have to be comfortable.

“A lot of people in the industry have said what a great idea it is - we just hope when things ease a bit it will become something more.”
