Friends of Buxton Station’s (FoBS) Rail Retail Trail leaflet highlights traders ‘in unusual buildings and others who sell extraordinary items in interesting ways’.

Some of those promoted are Victorian-era Clowes The Chemist, Buxton Pudding Emporium, plastic use reduction grocers Day Zero and Hargreaves homeware.

FoBS will eventually distribute the leaflet at railway stations and tourist information points in Manchester and Stockport encouraging a train visit to Buxton’s shops when nonessential train travel is opened up again.

In the meantime it will be available at Buxton railway station for those currently allowed to travel by train.

Dave Carlisle, FoBS chairman, said the voluntary group were keen to get the timing of the leaflet’s widespread release ‘just right’.

He said: “With the unlocking of shop restrictions it would seem appropriate to spread the message about Buxton being open once again.

“But it is early days for folk getting used to social distance-based shopping controls and trains are still off-limits for most.

“In 2018 we made a leaflet promoting our great pubs and gave us the idea to uplift our special shops in this time of need.

“We hope to play a small part in the town’s recovery after the impact of this terrible infection and this will spread the word about our lovely town.”
