Whaley Bridge volunteers embark on well-dressing works of art

Discover more about the ancient Derbyshire custom of well dressing by watching volunteers at work in Whaley Bridge.

The design is drawn on artists’ tracing paper and ‘pricked out’ onto clay. The picture is then outlined in wool and sweet cicely seeds, then filled in with flower petals, greenery, stone, coal and wool to represent the industrial archaeological heritage of Whaley.

The well dressing will be under construction at the Canal Basin next to Wharf Building, Whaley Bridge, from June 20 to 27, 10am to 4pm,

Admission is free, donations welcome.

Five petal pictures will be on show in the town during well dressing week which runs from June 28 to July 5.
