Studios record album in a day

MOST albums take weeks, if not months, to record. But this month Sheffield’s G2 Studios is making a compilation album with some of the region’s most sought-after artists in just one day.

The aptly-entitled Albuminaday project will record as many as 14 artists in 24 hours and then have the mixed and mastered album ready by 11.59 the next day.

In total, what would take most artists around three months will take producers at G2 just 48 hours.

And, while slightly bonkers, the ambitious project does have a good cause, to raise awareness (and money) for global justice and anti-poverty charity War on Want.

Producer John Sephton explains: “It’s rare that music genuinely helps people yet it has the capacity to do that – that’s if it’s done in a credible way and not cheesy.”

“I’m sick of people being cynical about charities – War on Want was up there with the 43 most-hated brands, along with McDonald’s. But what is it about charities that people hate so much?”

It was this question that led Sephton to join forces with War on Want. All sales from the album will go to the charity and War on Want will decide on the artists who make the final cut.

“We’re asking musicians to send us their links or demos and then we will forward them on to the charity,” says Sephton.

But there are already some big names who have been confirmed – Toddla T will be doing a remix for the album and former Long Blonde Kate Jackson will be recording a track.

The deadline for all other submissions is September 16 and recording will take place on October 8 to October 9.
