Professional dancers and their celebrity partners waltzed, tango-ed and quick stepped into Sheffield Arena for its annual visit as part of the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.

Ably hosted by Bake-Off presenter Mel Giedroyc, the glittering show mirrored the usual Saturday night spectacular with dances, voting by judges Len, Bruno and Craig and the chance for the audience to text in their favourite.

The evening started with a show-stopping group number by the professionals and celebrities. Scattered through the evening, these brought the house down and ranged from a Hollywood spectacular to a swimming pool-themed routine.

The dances included a stunning Viennese Waltz by Call the Midwife star Helen George and partner Aljaz Skorjanec and a comical number from celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and Karen Clifton who stood in for injured Natalie Lowe.

Current champion Jay McGuiness, dancing with Aliona Vilani, performed a couple of amazing routines including an incredible jive – bringing top scores from the judges and making him the worthy winners of the Sheffield glitterball trophy.

My seven-year-old daughter was stunned by the show, describing it as one of the best nights of her life.

And although the crowd may have waited nearly all evening for hard-to-please judge Craig Revel Horwood’s top score, we definitely gave the whole show a ten.
