REVIEW: Paddy McGuinness at Buxton Opera House

The popular comedian’s 2015 tour is called Daddy McGuiness, and having become a father to twins since he last toured, Paddy has no shortage of stories to tell.

Parents old and new could identify with much of the material, and those thinking of having a family will have left with an honest insight into what it’s really like having children, or a yearning for a vasectomy.

It was refreshing to see that Paddy is as warm and friendly as he appears on TV. Indeed, he took time out before starting the show to take a trip round the theatre’s stalls area, shaking hands with the audience and saying hello.

Once the show proper got underway, it was packed full of laughs throughout, with Paddy’s quick-witted northern humour leaving the audience in stitches.

The first half was filled with tales of parenthood and the trials and tribulations of bringing up twins. From dirty nappies to standing on Lego and the lack of good quality children’s TV in the noughties, even the non-parents in the audience could identify with the jokes.

And after the interval, Paddy switched from parenthood to a whole range of topics, covering everything from 80s toys to reality TV, ensuring the audience young and old had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

The tour is running until March so if you’ve not already got your tickets, now’s the time to get booking.
