Indie pop band Blossoms surpasses Drake and rises to the top of the charts with debut self-titled album

The Stockport band, who began rehearsing in a scaffolding yard owned by bassist Charlie Salt’s grandfather, went straight to No. 1 with their self-titled debut album following their August 5th release.

Despite an early lead in the mid-weeks from ELO and their record All Over The World - The Very Best Of, Blossoms took back control to defend their accolade.

The reformed 1970s progressive rock-pop group were in charge of the top position with 230 more sales than the newcomers on Monday. Canadian rapper Drake has been sitting in the charts for 15 weeks with his album ‘Views’, which was first released in April, has now risen from No. 2 after being at No. 3 last week.

Charleur Humaine by Christine and The Queens has risen from No. 6 to No. 4, and Bob Marley’s Legend climbed to the fifth spot after being at No. 11.

Over on the Official Singles Charts, Justin Bieber’s collaboration with Major Lazer and MØ has clung onto the No, 1 spot for the fourth consecutive week.

Cold Water has dominated the airwaves recently, and managed to keep Bieber’s other track, Let Me Love You with DJ Snake, down in second position for a second week.

This week’s top five is comprised of non-mover Calum Scott with Dancing On My Own at No, 3, Chainsmokers ft Halsey’s hit, Closer, rising from No. 4 from No. 12 and Perfect Strangers by Jonas Blue ft JP Cooper slipping down one place to No. 5.
