Tune in to five days of new movies at home with Derby Film Festival

Film fans can enjoy a double punch of great cinema at home this week as two festivals join forces.

Derby Film Festival and Paracinema Festival will present five days of films online from Thursday, November 19 to Monday, November 23.

Offerings of the best new cinema from 17 countries, including the United Kingdom, America, the Netherlands, Vietnam and Iran, will feature in Derby Film Festival. Films selected from international submissions cover topics of fallen angels (Too Bad), kidnapped children (The Badger), Cuban music (Mambo Man), the horror festival scene (The Horror Crowd) and nature versus man (Anonymous Animals).

Paracinema Film Festival includes two new Acid Westerns (from Columbia and Kidderminster) and a retro cop spoof.

Short filmmaking is celebrated in more than 50 new creations showing as part of curated programmes. Derby Film Festival (DFF) Genre Shorts incorporates deals with the devil, digital utopias, passionate musicians, desperate criminals and imaginary best friends. There is a DFF Documentary Shorts programme focusing on inspirational women, acrobats, celebrated authors, dance, breast cancer and the rise of CB radio in the 1970s. Caribbean Calling, is a showcase of shorts films from the region.

This year takes Derby Film Festival in a new direction with the launch of the QUAD player. Adam J. Marsh, Derby Film Festival/Paracinema director said: “We’re excited to launch our QUAD Player, while people are unable to visit us at QUAD in person. We had been planning this additional streaming element with it being an international festival.”
