Christmas entertainment in Buxton Opera House and the Pavilion Arts Centre

Christmas celebrations get off to a rousing start in Buxton this week.

The giant panto treat for all the family, Jack and the Beanstalk starring Spitting Image’s Steve Nallon, opens at the Opera House tonight (Thursday) where it runs until January 3.

Crowd of 2 Theatre return to town with its latest adapatation of festive favourite A Christmas Carol, pictured right. Four actors, some chains and a mask or two bring to life the story of humbug Scrooge, downtrodden Bob Cratchit and three ghostly guides. Catch this Dickens’ classic at the Pavilion Arts Centre studio on December 13 and 14.

A traditional carol concert featuring Buxton Musical Society and orchestra and guests the Choir of Worcester College, Oxford, is heading for the Opera House on Sunday, December 14.

Witty humour is the hallmark of Father Christmas Needs A Wee, a musical adaptation of Nicholas Allan’s much loved book which will be performed by TaleGate Theatre at the Pavilion Arts Centre on the afternoon of Friday, December 19.

The award-winning Brighouse & Rastrick Band and ex-Houghton Weavers frontman Norman Prince bring feelgood entertainment to the Opera House on, December 19.

Take a poptastic journey back in time when The Supersonic 70s Show lands at the Arts Centre on December 21. Fronted by charismatic singer Janey Bombshell, a live band will be recreating the sounds of the glam rock era, a few movie songs and Christmas hits from the Seventies.
