West and East collide in Puccini classic

Madame Butterfly
Madame Butterfly

ONE OF the best-loved operas of all time comes to the High Peak later this month.

Madame Butterfly, the fated love-story of Cio-Cio San and Pinkerton, the American Naval Officer, will be performed at Buxton Opera House by Mid Wales Opera on Friday September 30, at 7.30pm.

Puccini merges Western and Eastern music perfectly, bringing to life this tragedy of love across continents and cultures.

Nicholas Cleobury will conduct a superb cast of young singers drawn from the National Opera Companies and will be accompanied by Mid Wales Opera’s much-praised orchestral ensemble.

With some of the most sumptuous music ever written for the opera stage, including the dramatic soprano aria One Fine Day, this brand-new production will be an intimate, beautiful and heart-rending experience for opera-goers old and new.

Tickets, priced from £15 to £23, are available on 0845 127 2190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
