August is the month for celebrating anniversaries at Buxton Opera House with a raft of events planned at the venue next month.
The Last Night of the Summer Proms (Sunday August 3 at 7.30pm) will commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War One and the 75th anniversary of World War Two, while The Big Chris Barber Band is celebrating its own 60th anniversary (Tuesday August 5 at 7.30pm).
During the Last Night of The Summer Proms compere Mark Langley and the 46-piece orchestra will perform along with singers John Hudson (tenor) and Anna Clare Monk (soprano).
The evening boasts a night of reflection, rousing tunes, flag waving, whistle blowing and of course pomp and circumstance which our forefathers fought and gave their lives to preserve.
Two days later, The Big Chris Barber Band 60th Anniversary Tour features Chris Barber OBE, celebrating his Diamond Jubilee as its full-time professional leader.
The band features everything from New Orleans to Blues to late 20s Ellington, played with extraordinary panache and skill.
As an icon of traditional jazz in the UK, the band provides high-quality music which will appeal in equal measure to the aficionado and the newcomer.
Tickets for Last Night at The Summer Proms are priced at £26 and £28, while entry for The Big Chris Barber Band 60th Anniversary Tour is £14 and £16.
