It’s no mystery why tickets have been flying off the shelves for the legendary, record-breaking Box Office smash-hit thriller The Mousetrap, which is coming to Buxton for a week-long run.

Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit is world-famous for being the longest-running show of any kind in the history of British theatre – with over 25,000 performances.

And to celebrate 60 years on stage, the show has gone on tour for the first time, with a star cast, to give audiences a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this classic masterpiece on their own doorstep.

The diamond anniversary tour opens at Buxton Opera House on Monday for six evening and two matinee performances - and the show is already proving to be the hottest ticket in town.

Buxton Opera House Press Officer Jenny Mather said: “We’ve had an unprecedented amount of tickets sold for the show, with some performances already sold out.

“There are still a few tickets available for those customers who don’t want to miss out, but people will have to hurry!”

In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha creates an atmosphere of shuddering suspense with a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner.

The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be?

One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed.

The large cast includes returning company member Karl Howman (Brush Strokes) as Mr Paravicini alongside: Joanna Croll (Sirens, Doctors) as Mollie Ralston, Ellie Jacob (DCI Banks, Misfits) as Miss Casewell, Christopher Gilling (ITV’s Law and Order, BBC1’s Silk) as Major Metcalf, Anne Kavanagh (Chichester Festival Theatre’s Goodnight Mr Tom) as Mrs Boyle and Henry Luxemburg (Hollyoaks, Hotel Babylon) among others.

The Mousetrap runs at Buxton Opera House from Monday November 18 to Saturday November 23, each evening at 7.30pm, with matinees on the Thursday and Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets, priced from £16 to £31, are available from the Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or they can be purchased online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
