SHAKESPEARE’S Globe Touring Company returns for a fifth year to Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens with an enchanting open-air production of As You Like It.

Performed on an Elizabethan-style mobile stage, a small troupe of travelling players breathes new life into this firm favourite among Shakespeare’s comedies, which runs the glorious gamut of pastoral romance: cross-dressing and love-notes, poetry and gentle satire, slapstick and passion.

Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando at a wrestling match, but her usurping uncle, jealous of her popularity, banishes her from court.

Disguised as a boy, she seeks out her father and his friends in the Forest of Arden.

Here she meets Orlando again and, under the guise of a young man, counsels him in the art of love.

As You Like It will be performed in the Pavilion Gardens from Friday July 1 to Sunday July 3, at 6pm.

Picnics are available to pre-order from the Pavilion Gardens and guests are encouraged to take along a low-backed seat, or a rug to sit on.

Tickets, priced £10 for children and £15 for adults, with discounts available, can be purchased from the Buxton Opera House box office on 0845 127 2190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
