School pupils from across the High Peak will sing their hearts out at a concert in Buxton this weekend, alongside members of the award-winning Kinder Children’s Choirs.
As part of an annual outreach programme, choir founder director Joyce Ellis and assistant Katherine Moore have been visiting local schools over the past six weeks, helping pupils discover their singing voices and teaching them songs which they will sing in concert with the Kinder Choirs.
The culmination of the project is a concert on Sunday at the Octagon in the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, from 3pm.
Joyce said: “The children are very excited as they have the chance to show off to their families on Mother’s Day.”
Schools taking part in the concert are Chapel-en-le-Frith Primary School, Hayfield Primary School, New Mills Primary School and Taxal and Fernilee Primary School.
The programme will feature a varied mix of music, from popular classics to Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse.
Tickets are available from Brooke Taylor’s Solicitors, 4 the Quadrant, Buxton, or on the door.
• Kinder Children’s Choirs is also on the look-out for new members to join their training groups.
Joyce Ellis will be holding a free workshop for interested children and their parents on Monday March 11, at Whaley Bridge Uniting Church at 5pm.
“Singing in a choir teaches children how to work in a team, it helps them to concentrate and memorise, and gives them exciting opportunities to perform at a high level. There is also a great social side to the choirs,” said Joyce.
“The workshop is great fun and children also have the opportunity to meet members of the choirs who can tell them what it is like to be a chorister and perform on the stage in concerts and competitions.”
Involving more than 100 choristers between the ages of seven and 18 across five choirs, the Kinder Children’s Choirs of the High Peak have gained a national and international profile with successes in major competitions and festivals, including twice winners of the prestigious Llangollen International Eisteddfod.
As well as regular European tours and appearances on TV and radio, the choirs perform at a wide variety of venues including cathedrals and national concert halls.
