WHALEY Bridge will be the focus of attention this weekend for the start of the popular Rose Queen Festival.
One of the highlights in a host of events that have been organised will be the carnival procession which will wind its way through the streets of the town on Saturday afternoon.
The Rose Queen Royalty and VIPs will arrive in the Canal Basin on the Judith Mary before joining the assembled floats, bands and visiting royalty for the colourful parade.
Attention will then turn to a wide range of field events taking place including the Crowning of the 2011 Royalty, Queens on Parade, stalls and fairground rides. The field events will be held at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club.
Organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for some dry weather and that the community comes out in force to support the event. It is not too late to get involved - see the programme on sale in the town for details.
Residents and visitors will also be able to see the town’s Well Dressings, which will go on display from Saturday, with the Blessing of the Wells taking place on Sunday.
The finishing touches are currently being made to the intricate designs being created as part of the town’s 12th Well Dressing.
There will also be the chance to view over 150 paintings created by members of the Whaley Bridge Art Group at an exhibition at the Uniting Church from 10am-5pm on Saturday.
