ELO’s Jeff Lynne has been a busy man over the past few years. But he still found time tocontribute to an album by one of his favourite bands, the Dublin four-piece Pugwash.

If you haven’t heard of them, don’t worry. Pugwash have been flying under the radar, gathering famous fans and glowing critical praise for more than a decade.

They will be adding to their growing army of followers when they play a free gig at the Packhorse, Hayfield, on Saturday, May 28, in support of their last album release, Play This Intimately As If Among Friends.

Frontman Thomas Walsh said: “We’re lucky to see some beautiful places when we’re touring through the UK and it’ll be great to play in Hayfield again to round off the UK tour.”

Apart from Jeff Lynne, the album also had contributions from The Kinks’ Ray Davies, Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, and Andy Partridge of XTC.

In the past Pugwash have also worked with Ben Folds and Matt Berry – in fact frontman Thomas provides the singing voice for Ray “Bloody” Purchase in Toast of London. Walsh was also one half of the Ivor Novello-nominated Duckworth Lewis Method, with Neil Hannon.
