NEVER tried mandolin music? Well, now’s your chance!
Britain’s leading hot-fingered mandolin virtuoso, Simon Mayor, is to lead his feisty foursome on an evening of merriment and music at the Pavilion Arts Centre on Thursday February 23, at 8pm, as part of Buxton’s annual festival of live music, Four Four Time 2012.
The Mandolinquents - Mayor, Gerald Garcia, Hilary James and Richard Collins - feature everything from hot swing and ragtime instrumentals from the mandolin orchestras of the 1930s: Irving Berlin, Mozart, Ravel and Tchaikovsky to lively reels and beautiful traditional Irish airs to Chinese and Brazilian folk tunes.
All this is played with infectious fun, off-beat humour and stunning virtuosity on mandolin, mandola, mandocello, mandobass and classical guitar, with the occasional burst of song or fiddle.
Tickets, priced £15, with discounts available, can be purchased from the Box Office on 0845 127 2190, or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
