Orgy of laughter

BUXTON Opera House is preparing for an ‘orgy of laughter’ when Up Pompeii opens tonight (Thursday).

The show, based on the BBC TV sitcom with Frankie Howerd, will be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday.

Who could ever forget Lurcio, the wily slave immortalised by Frankie Howerd, getting into scrapes with scantily clad girls and bumbling masters in pre-eruption Pompeii, and inter-acting with the audience in the way that only Frankie could?

This stage version of the popular TV show was written for Howerd, but he died before it could reach the stage.

Now Damian Williams, who delighted Buxton audiences with his hilarious antics in Doctor in the House and Hi-de-Hi!, brings to life one of comedy’s most beloved characters.

Tickets, priced from £13.50 to £19.50, are available from the Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
