A SPECIAL concert is to be held in New Mills to celebrate the anniversary of the country’s oldest continuously-running brass band.

New Mills Band has been playing for the community for 200 years, never disbanding during the war years.

To celebrate this achievement, a concert will be held in High Lea Park on Saturday June 30, between 1pm and 5pm.

This free, family-friendly event will feature a massed band comprising of New Mills, Thornsett and Chapel Town bands, all playing in their own colours. Also booked specially for the afternoon is one of the world’s leading brass bands, The Fairey Band.

There will also be craft stalls and other attractions such as a Chainsaw Wood Carver and Stockport Beekeepers with their observation hive and interesting talks on beekeeping, as well as a small children’s fair, bottle tombola and raffle.

Hot food and ice creams will be available, and there will be a licensed bar.
