BUXTON’S Burbage Brass Band became the first for 20 years to retain the title of Midlands Champions by winning the 2012 competition.
In their section they were competing against 25 bands from all over the Midlands region.
The band will now be invited to compete in the National Finals, against the other regional winners, to be held in September.
Conductor Steve Critchlow said: “This results confirms last year’s victory was no fluke.
“The judges described our performance of Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite as being beautifully phrased and skilfully controlled, exactly as the composer intended, which is praise indeed.
“We look forward now to some great concerts, before the challenge of the national finals – not to mention the challenge of raising the money to get there!”
The band are in concert at Burbage Church on Sunday March 25.
