Gore, more gore – and Ruddigore

Opera della Luna will bring a Victorian treat up to date with their unique production of The Ghosts of Ruddigore by Gilbert and Sullivan at Buxton Opera House on Wednesday, November 16, at 7.30pm.

Set in the town of Rederring, in Cornwall, a chorus of bridesmaids worry that there have been no weddings for the last six months. All the eligible young men are saving themselves in the hope of winning the affections of Rose Maybud – the prettiest maiden in the village

Little do they realise that Rose has sworn to remain unattached forever after a terrible experience in her past. Years before Rose had been betrothed to a ‘god-like’ youth – whom she only learnt the true identity of on her wedding day; he was none other than one of the bad baronets of Ruddigore!

Ghosts and apparitions take to the stage in a quite literally haunting tale of rural romance.

This cleverly re-imagined production features all the well-loved songs but this is G&S as you have never seen or heard it before! It’s Gilbert and Sullivan meets Rocky Horror as Opera della Luna revisit Ruddigore in their own unique style.

The performance begins at 7.30pm. Tickets for The Ghosts of Ruddigore will be priced at £16.50 and £18.50 and discounts are available.
