GET YOURSELF into gear for New Mills Parade & Fete, which has a Travel and Transport theme this year.
A grand procession, featuring over a dozen bands and dance troupes, together with an afternoon of entertainment, is in store for those attending the annual celebration on Saturday June 11.
The line-up includes two bagpipe bands, a percussion band, and a number of traditional brass bands.
Highlights on the Fete Field include a giant inflatable assault course and a circus skills workshop, which will be offering free tuition in juggling, as well as demonstrating other circus skills.
The event begins at 1pm, with floats, bands, dance troupes, carnival royalty and a whole host of individuals and groups in fancy dress taking part in a grand procession through the town.
The route will take them along Market Street, down Union Road and up Albion Road to the Fete Field (Newtown Recreation Ground, behind Swizzels Matlow).
There will then be entertainment on the Fete Field throughout the afternoon, plus a fun fair, stalls and trade stands, food and refreshment stalls and a bar.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Travel and Transport’, which should provide great inspiration for costumes and float designs, as well as for entries into the event’s scarecrow and best dressed pub, shop, establishment and house competitions.
Full details on the event are contained in the Parade and Fete Programme, which is on sale at shops and businesses throughout the town.
Alternatively, phone Barbara Laurie on 01663 743694 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
* Anyone wishing to enter the fancy dress or best dress pram or bike competitions can simply turn up on the day.
