Festive friends

THE FRIENDS of Spring Bank Arts - formerly The Friends of St James’ - are presenting an evening of seasonal celebrations in New Mills.

It will take place in the Library Lecture Room on Hall Street, New Mills, on Thursday December 15, at 7.30pm.

The performers will be members of The Friends, together with a celebrity appearance of The Whaley Singers – an exciting group recently formed under the direction of Patrick Gundry-White.

The singers will be working with local performance poet Barbara Jagger to combine readings and vocal items.

Following mulled wine and seasonal bites served in the break, readers from The Friends will deliver a traditional Mummers Play, complete with St George and Bold Slasher. This will be accompanied by other short and appropriately festive items.

Tickets, priced £7 (£5.50 concessions), can be obtained from New Mills Original on 01663 746202 or via the ticket hotline on 01663 746074. Current “Friends” are entitled to discounts on pre-purchased tickets.
