Curl power of one-woman production

A show exploring the history of Afro hair has put down roots in Sheffield.

Dark and Lovely, at the Crucible Studio Theatre until Friday, November 20, explores what it means to be black, British and female.

Presented from a home for hair, built from abandoned weaves and extensions, the work uses recorded conversations with barbers, hair vendors and customers, feel good music and written text.

The one-woman show looks at the complexities of the social debate surrounding Afro hair and celebrates what it means - and doesn’t mean - to be black, through the way people wear their hair.
