Bird song in music is the theme for a concert by three of the areas best known musicians on Sunday June 5 at Glossop Parish Church.
Singer Lois Murray (pictured bottom right) is a firm favourite with Glossop audiences having performed many times as a soloist with local choirs.
She will be joined by local professional musicians Maria Snowdon (pictured right), flute, and John Miles, piano, for this varied programme of music inspired by bird song.
The programme, entitled “Lo, Here the Gentle Lark”, includes music from Bach’s “Chocolate” Cantata, Haydn’s Creation, Ravel’s Shéhérazade and works by Schubert, Saint-Saens and Gershwin, including perennial favourites such as “The Swan” and Canteloube’s beautiful “Songs of the Auvergne”.
The concert also includes a chance to hear a rarely performed masterpiece, Douglas Steele’s Flute Sonata.
The concert is the last in the current series for Glossop Concert Society and starts at 3pm. Tickets, priced at £10, £7.50 concessions, £3 for full-time students and free for under-tens, are available from Baytree Books and George Street Books.
