The Big Chris Barber Band is returning to Buxton Opera House by popular demand on Friday June 1.
Over the years Chris Barber has influenced many of today’s leading jazz and blues musicians especially contemporary artists such as Mark Knopfler, Eric Burdon, John Mayall, The Stones, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison (with some of whose bands Chris has often been a featured guest). But it’s with his own ten-piece band that Chris combines all the special ingredients of his long career into an evening of excitement and moving jazz and blues music.
Music covered during the night will take audiences from Chris’ roots: his New Orleans-style hit – Bourbon Street Parade (still his signature tune) to the early music of Duke Ellington (Black & Tan Fantasy and Jubilee Stomp) and Sidney Bechet (Petite Fleur) and further on to blues by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee (Cornbread, Peas and Black Molasses) or Miles Davis’ All Blues and probably back to When the Saints!
The show begins at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £17 and £19, are available from the Box Office on 0845 127 2190 or online at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
