Chapel-en-le-Frith Civic Society is appealing for people to come forward who would like to take on the dressing of a well in the town.
For the past 17 years five wells have been dressed during the first week in July. Members of the Civic Society are no longer able to take on the dressing of their well and are looking for people to take it over.
Mike Smith, the retiring chair of the well dressing committee, said: “We would like to hear from groups or individuals with an artistic or craft bent who would be willing to take on a well dressing or help with any of the other dressings in Chapel, whether or not they have previous experience.”
Sara Armstrong, who designs the dressing at Nanny’s Well, has offered to put on a workshop in late March for interested groups or individuals.
Well boards would be made available to a new group, as would contacts for obtaining clay and other materials. Anyone interested can contact Mike Smith on 01298 812706 or Brian Aries on 01298 815291.
