THE SMALL Peak District village of Taddington is preparing to welcome people from all over to its annual well dressing and flower festival.
Events, focusing on this year’s theme of ‘World of Learning’, get underway on Saturday in the churchyard at the historic St Michael’s and All Angels Parish Church with a craft and produce show at noon, bell ringing at 2.30pm and a family fun afternoon at 2pm, followed by the blessing of the wells from 2.30pm.
The churchyard hosts a display of classic cars and tractors on Sunday from 12.30pm, followed at 2.30pm by music from Hathersage Band. Holy Communion and Evening of Praise services will be conducted in the church at 10am and 6.30pm respectively.
Other events during wells dressing week include: Monday August 22, quiz at the Waterloo Inn, 8.30pm, teams of four, £1 per person; Tuesday August 23, Lanes Race and barbecue, from 7pm at Bramwell Institute; Thursday August 25, Taddys Got Talent, 7pm, at the Bramwell Institute, ticket-only; Friday August 26, sports and games on the church field from 6.30pm; Saturday August 27, from 3pm, summer serenade by chorale singers in the church, followed by end of festival gathering.
Also between August 20 and 27, a flower festival takes place at the church, with refreshments served daily between 10.30am and 5pm.
