GNOMEO & Juliet and The Way Back are the two films to be screened at Chinley Community Cinema this weekend.
Gnomeo & Juliet, a 2011 computer-animated family comedy-drama film based on William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, will be screened at 3pm on Saturday. James McAvoy and Emily Blunt voice the main characters in the Certificate U-rated film.
This will be followed on Sunday, at 7pm, by The Way Back, the critically acclaimed new release from renowned director Peter Weir. Rated certificate 12, the film stars Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Mark Strong and Saoirse Ronan.
Inspired by a true story, this film of survival against the odds tells the story of a group of seven prisoners who escaped from a Soviet gulag in Stalin-era Russia and walked over 4,000 miles across some of the most unforgiving terrain in the world, crossing the Siberian Arctic, the Gobi desert and the Himalayas before finally arriving in British-ruled India.
Screenings are held at Chinley Community Centre, on Lower Lane, Chinley.
l From September onwards, all films will be shown on the second Sunday of each month. The dates for the rest of the year are as follows: September 11, October 9, November 13, December 11.
