Art throws light on town

Peak District Artisans’ (PDA) most prestigious event of the year, the Great Dome Art Fair 2012 will take place on July 21 and 22.

The award-winning event – part of Buxton’s Festival Fringe – showcases the eclectic range of talent within the group including artists, photographers, designers, makers, artisans and many more.

Buxton-based members contributing to the auction include painters Louise Jannetta, Sandra Orme and mixed media artist Ingrid Karlsson-Kemp. Louise’s ‘Festival of Light’ incorporates the theme of the auction ‘Buxton Festival’, whilst Sandra’s ‘Evening above Buxton’ reflects a dramatic summer sunset over Buxton as the lights come on in the town nestled in the valley below.

Ingrid’s contribution, ‘A night at the opera’ is already well known throughout Buxton as she was commissioned by the Buxton Festival to design this piece specifically for the front cover of this year’s brochure.

This year the event will be supporting Helen’s Trust by donating the proceeds of an exclusive auction to the charity. Chairman of PDA, Chris Farrow said: “We are delighted to be supporting Helen’s Trust. They do a fantastic job helping people with terminal illness to stay at home and as a group it’s great to be able to help them.”

Artists will be delivering a range of demonstrations and talks giving insightful examples whilst focusing on their individual styles.
