Organisers have announced two additions to the bumper line-up for next month’s Buxton Military Tattoo.
Erin Parker, one of the UK’s most successful wartime singers, will take part in the musical extravaganza at the iconic Devonshire Dome on Saturday July 5.
Travelling the country with her solo show ‘Sounds of the 40s’, Erin has been performing on the 1940s circuit for ten years, appearing at numerous prestigious venues including The Imperial War Museum and The Royal Armouries.
She has sung at countless events, ranging from National Armed Forces Day, Proms in the Park, re-enactment weekends, corporate dinners and private parties.
Erin said: “You can’t beat the songs from the war years - they really don’t make them like they used to! So many from the time are full of hope, loss, yearning, love, celebration and joy - there’s the whole spectrum of human feeling in there which is what makes them so powerful.”
Erin is also a big fan of the fashions from the war years, and really dresses the part for her shows.
She added: “I’m delighted to have been asked to sing at the Buxton Military Tattoo - it promises to be a wonderful event and I’m really honoured to be taking part. I’m really excited to be singing with the Royal Engineers’ Band - I can’t wait!”
Another new addition to the programme is an operational display from the local Mercian Regiment. After captivating last year’s audiences with their performance of a patrol in Afghanistan, the Mercian has put together another exciting display, and will hold a meet and greet with the public during the interval.
The July 5 performances will also feature The Band of The Irish Guards, The Pipes and Drums of 1 Bn The Royal Regiment of Scotland, Royal Signals Northern Band, The Nottinghamshire Band of The Royal Engineers, 126 (City of Derby) Sqn RAF Air Cadets Drill Display Team, 2517 (Buxton) Sqn RAF Air Cadets and Derbyshire Army Cadet Force Band.
Tickets for the Buxton Military Tattoo are still available from Buxton Opera House on 0845 127 2190, or for further information visit www.buxtontattoo.org.uk.
