GHOSTS, pirates and wizards were all brought to life as Whaley Bridge enjoyed its annual Rose Queen festival at the weekend.
After days of heavy rain, Saturday's procession was blessed with fine, warm weather as it snaked through the town, watched by crowds of spectators of all ages.

High Peak Mayor and Mayoress Cllrs Robin and Linda Baldry, joined Cllr Jake Walsh, chair of Whaley Bridge Town council at the head of the parade, which was led by Fairfield band.

Buxworth School came over all swashbuckling with their pirate themed entry while 1st Taxal Scouts brought a touch of magic to the event with their Harry Potter float.

Further music was provided by the United Co-operative New Mills band before the High Peak Twins and Multiples Club brought Noah's Ark to life.

Chapel-en-le-Frith's royalty went under the sea while Churches Together brought animals to life for their entry.

After the procession, Whaley Bridge Rose Queen Sarah Tolley and her retinue Personality Princess Alice Bell, Princess Dawn Arnold, Rosebud Hollie Wilman and Petal Fern Arnold were crowned on the primary school's field.

Other events in the afternoon included a Birds of Prey Display and the Queens on Parade.

Other festivities which took place during Rose Queen week include a car boot sale, well dressing blessing and a pet show.

Rose Queen President Tony Mackey said: "It went extremely well. All the reports I had from different people in town was that it was very good.

"It all went off as it should do although we ran a bit late with the crowning ceremony.

"We did very well for the weather as well."

Best Decorated Queens Float: 1st Buxton Royalty; 2nd Chapel-en-le-Frith Royalty; 3rd Diabetes UK Royalty.

Best Walking Royalty: 1st Wirksworth Junior Queen Shannon-Louise; 2nd McMillan Cancer Relief Queen Elect Hayley and Retinue; 3rd New Mills Personality Rosebud Alissa.

Best Petal on Arena: 1st Chapel-en-le-Frith Personality Petal Abigail.
