Whaley flies the flag for being British

WHALEY Bridge Town Council is looking to take advantage of relaxed restrictions over flying the Union Flag.
Under legislation dating back to 1924, the flying of national flags from public buildings was restricted to just 18 days a year.
But speaking at a meeting of Whaley Bridge Town Council last Thursday, Cllr Jake Walsh said: "I notice the rules have now been relaxed on flying the Union Flag on Government buildings all year round.
"I would just check with Derbyshire Association of Local Councils (DALC), as a precaution, but my proposal is that we start flying the Union Flag permanently from the flag pole outside (at the Mechanics Institute).
"It is all about Britishness, and this building is a public building and the seat of this town council."
Councillors voted in favour of the proposal.
