THE HIGH Peak's newest NHS dental practice was officially opened last week – and is already oversubscribed.
Based at the newly renamed Goyt Valley Medical and Dental Practice in Whaley Bridge, the surgery was officially opened last Wednesday by John Raine, chair of Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust.
The new practice, which opened last month, features three new dental suites and is run by two full-time dentists, with a hygienist due to start in September.
Covering Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Chinley, the practice features all the latest state-of-the-art technology as well as having a lift to provide better access for disabled or less abled patients.
Dentist Chris Clark, who works at the new practice, said: "We were brought here because we knew there was a demand.
"We are really excited. It is, and should be, the future of the NHS to provide people with what they need."
Ann Young, councillor and patients' representative, attended the official opening.
She said: "The designers, builders and doctors can be justifiably proud of the work completed.
"The whole building now is purpose-built for consultation, minor surgery and dentistry. On site are two NHS dentists.
"I am sure the patients will find many of the services they require in a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere.
"The PCT, doctors and staff are working together to promote a healthy environment and I wish the venture every success."
Demand has been so high that the practice is currently not taking on any new patients but it is hoped that this situation will change soon.
The practice is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with additional hours available on some days.
