LAND ROVER Defender owners are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of thefts across the county.
PC Jo Bradshaw told councillors in Whaley Bridge that a vehicle had been taken from the town.

"It is going on around the county at the moment," she explained. "If anyone has got one or knows someone with them they should be very safety conscious. They are being stolen at any time of day."

Councillors heard that 12 crimes were recorded in a four-week period in Whaley Bridge with Chapel and New Mills seeing a number of incidents of theft from unattended vehicles and damage.

* Improvements to Furness Vale Play Area have been welcomed by members of Whaley Bridge Town Council.

* The Whaley Bridge Safer Neighbourhood Team have drawn up a list of three priorities for the next three months.

Among the issues to be addressed will be vandalism at Taxal Lodge which is causing concern for local residents and extensive damage to the building.
